Tattoos

I could not date a girl who had tattoos. I find tattoos to be wholly repugnant and utterly disgusting. It ruins their body. Also there are Biblical reasons why they are not wise.

Scripture says:
Leviticus 19:28 You shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor tattoo any marks on you: I am the Lord.

Further our bodies, as Christians, are temples of the Holy Spirit so we should not defile or deface our bodies.

Corinthians 6:19-20 Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?

I noticed that girls used to get a small discreet tattoo, but now the trend is to either get many smaller tattoos or to get a huge garish one. It's really unattractive. And girls should realize that tattoos are permanent unless one has very painful and very expensive laser surgery to remove them.

  1. Yeah, paying to ruin your own body. That being said: 1) people do strange things before (and sometimes after) becoming a Christian 2) a tattooed Christian can have an open door to witness to folks with tattoos, that a clean skinned person wont.

  2. Well. I would not quote Leviticus 19 as this chapter explicitly begins with "(1) The Lord said to Moses, (2) “Speak to the entire assembly of Israel and say to them: ‘Be holy because I, the Lord your God, am holy.'" and it contains this famous prohibition: "(19) .. Do not wear clothing woven of two kinds of material."

Confucius also has a similar prohibition against tattoo as your body was given by your parents and your ancestors and should not be defiled. This is why for most of Chinese history, men were not allowed to cut their hair for cutting it was considered defiling your body.

Anyway, I don't like tattoos because it looks awful when you get older and it is very expensive/difficult to remove.
